HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball head coach Nancy Winstel announced Wednesday that Katie Butler has transferred from the University of Dayton and will play for the Norse this season.

Butler, a 6-foot-1 forward and a native of Findlay, Ohio, played two seasons at Dayton. She saw action in 27 games last season and averaged 4.8 points per contest. Butler was 11-for-38 from three-point range as a sophomore and averaged 2.6 rebounds per game.

As a freshman, Butler also averaged 4.8 ppg and was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week in December of 2003. During her first year with the Flyers, Butler scored 15 points in a win over Wright State, and she had 14 points and seven rebounds against George Washington.

A 2003 graduate of Liberty-Benton High School, Butler was named Northwest Ohio Player of the Year as a senior after averaging 25.3 ppg and 10.3 rpg. She also recorded 80 blocked shots as a senior.

Butler also was named Northwest Ohio Player of the Year as a junior after scoring 26.4 ppg and grabbing 10.7 rpg. She finished her prep career with 359 blocked shots.

In addition, Butler lettered in volleyball and was named second team all-state in Ohio as a senior. She also lettered in track and field at Liberty-Benton.

Butler will join an NKU program that posted a 16-12 record last season. The Norse return three starters from that team.
