HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern
Kentucky University women’s basketball head coach Nancy Winstel
announced Wednesday that Katie Butler has transferred from the University
of Dayton and will play for the Norse this season.
Butler, a 6-foot-1 forward
and a native of Findlay, Ohio, played two seasons at Dayton. She
saw action in 27 games last season and averaged 4.8 points per contest.
Butler was 11-for-38 from three-point range as a sophomore and averaged
2.6 rebounds per game.
As a freshman, Butler
also averaged 4.8 ppg and was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the
Week in December of 2003. During her first year with the Flyers,
Butler scored 15 points in a win over Wright State, and she had
14 points and seven rebounds against George Washington.
A 2003 graduate of Liberty-Benton
High School, Butler was named Northwest Ohio Player of the Year
as a senior after averaging 25.3 ppg and 10.3 rpg. She also recorded
80 blocked shots as a senior.
Butler also was named
Northwest Ohio Player of the Year as a junior after scoring 26.4
ppg and grabbing 10.7 rpg. She finished her prep career with 359
blocked shots.
In addition, Butler
lettered in volleyball and was named second team all-state in Ohio
as a senior. She also lettered in track and field at Liberty-Benton.
Butler will join an
NKU program that posted a 16-12 record last season. The Norse return
three starters from that team.
