INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky University’s Braden
Bishop earned his second Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s
soccer Player of the Week award of the season following a four-point
weekend.
Bishop started the weekend by scoring his team-leading
ninth goal of the season to propel the Norse to a 1-0 victory Friday
night against Indianapolis. The free-kick play started off the
boot of Dan Impellizzeri. Chad Cook flicked the ball ahead to Bishop,
who buried the shot high to the left side.
In Sunday’s matinee
against Saint Joseph’s, Bishop
picked up a pair of assists in the 3-1 decision. Bishop aided Tony
Ray’s game-winning
marker in the 14th minute, as well as the insurance tally by Seth
Eckerlin in the 62nd.
The wins pushed NKU to a 14-0 overall record
and a 9-0 GLVC mark, clinching a spot in the GLVC Tournament in
the process.
Bishop’s
nine goals and four assists give him a team-high 22 points on
the
season. He also shares the team lead
with four game-winning goals.
This marks the third time this season
an NKU player has earned the GLVC Player of the Week honor. Steven
Beattie was selected on Sept. 17 after a four-goal weekend. Bishop
last earned the award on Sept. 24, after he added insurance goals
in wins over Missouri-Rolla and Missouri-St. Louis.
It is the first
time since the GLVC began the award in 1998 that an NKU men's
soccer player has been named Player of the Week twice in the same
season.
NKU returns home Friday to face Southern Indiana at 7:30
p.m. before entertaining Kentucky Wesleyan for Senior Day at
2:30 p.m. Sunday. |
