WILDER, Ky. – His
name is Jason Larkin, and he wins games.
His
goal in the 28th minute against Quincy propelled the Northern Kentucky
University men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory in
Great Lakes Conference play Sunday.
The goal was
set up with a pass from Tony Ray in to Larkin 20 yards out from
goal.
Larkin then
sent the ball across to Tony Capurro,
who worked a brilliant give-and-go to open up space one-on-one
against the keeper. Larkin cashed in, flicking the ball to the
left post, for the game’s only marker.
It was Larkin’s
second goal of the season, both of which have been game-winning
tallies.
NKU (12-0, 7-0 GLVC) had another outstanding defensive
performance, allowing Quincy only five shots, with just one of
those on goal.
Andy Ortman made the lone save for his 15th career shutout.
The
Norse were able to spread the offensive chances around, as well,
as they got 17 shots from 10 different players.
Northern Kentucky,
ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA Division II national poll, will
hit the road this weekend, taking on No. 24
Indianapolis on Friday before traveling to Saint Joseph’s
to wrap up a GLVC weekend on Sunday. BOX
