INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman
striker Steven Beattie has been named the Great Lakes Valley
Conference Player of the Week in men’s
soccer, the league office announced Monday.
Beattie, a native of
Dublin, Ireland, scored four goals in two games overt the weekend
to lead NKU to a pair of wins. Beattie
scored three goals during an 8-2 victory over Ashland on Friday.
Two days later, the freshman netted the only goal in a 1-0 win
over Bellarmine.
Beattie now has five goals, which ties him with
Tony Ray and Braden Bishop for the team lead in that category.
Beattie
is the first member of the Norse to be named GLVC Player of the
Week this season. The last NKU player to earn the distinction
was Chris Thompson on Sept. 25, 2006.
NKU (8-0, 3-0 GLVC),
ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division II national poll, will return
to GLVC action this weekend, hitting
the
road to take on Missouri-Rolla on Friday before facing
Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday.
