MISSION, Kan. – The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team jumped two places to No. 3 in this week’s NCAA Division II national poll.

The Norse trail Fort Lewis College, last year’s national runner-up, and Lynn (Fla.).

The Great Lakes Valley Conference had three other teams climb in the top 25, as Wisconsin-Parkside rose 10 spots to No. 12 and Lewis gained nine positions to No. 16. Rockhurst made its 2007 debut at No. 24 after a 3-0 start.

NKU’s rise in the polls can be attributed to its performance on the road this past weekend, as the Norse defeated Findlay, 4-1, Friday before picking up a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Tiffin on Sunday.

The Tiffin match marked just the second time in NKU’s last 26 matches that the Norse were forced to play catch-up at halftime.

The road gets no easier for head coach John Basalyga’s squad this weekend as the Norse open GLVC play against No. 16 Lewis on Friday night at Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder. They will conclude the weekend against No. 12 Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday afternoon.
