KENOSHA, Wis.
- The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team must feel right
at home when playing at Wisconsin-Parkside's Wood Road Field.
A year ago in
the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament,
No. 6 seed NKU stunned No. 3 seed Wisconsin-Parkside, 2-1, at Wood
Road Field. And on Friday afternoon, the Norse again pulled off
the road upset of the Rangers, this time by a 1-0 score.
Wisconsin-Parkside
entered Friday's game ranked No. 24 nationally in the NCAA Division
II poll. NKU's defense, however, shut down the Ranger offense, and
the Norse pushed across a second-half goal to record the victory.
NKU improved
to 8-2-1 overall, 5-2-1 in the GLVC. Wisconsin-Parkside dropped
to 8-2-1, 6-2-1 GLVC.
Tony Capurro
netted the only goal of the contest at the 52:44 mark off an assist
from Braden Bishop. NKU played a man short much of the second half
after Kyle Roberts received a red card, but the Norse defense remained
stingy.
NKU goalie Andy
Ortman recorded the shutout and had three saves. It was the fifth
shutout of the season for Ortman, a junior and a graduate of Roger
Bacon High School.
NKU extended
its winning streak to four, and the Norse will continue the road
trip Sunday with a GLVC showdown against Lewis in Romeoville, Ill.
Lewis is ranked No. 15 nationally in the Division II poll.
NKU will return
home next Friday to meet Rockhurst at 5 p.m. at the Town & Country
Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.
