HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University will begin Great Lakes Valley
Conference play in soccer Friday by hosting a doubleheader against
Indianapolis at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder,
Ky.
The NKU men meet Indianapolis
at 5 p.m., followed by the women’s game at 7:30 p.m. The Norse
will also play host to Saint Joseph’s in a GLVC doubleheader
Sunday, beginning with the men’s game at noon. The women play
at 2:30 p.m.
Both NKU teams are 2-0
going into Friday. The NKU men won twice during the John Toebben
Classic last weekend, sweeping past Salem International and West
Virginia Wesleyan by identical 4-0 scores.
The NKU women began the
season on the road in West Virginia last week, and the Norse defeated
Concord (1-0) and Davis & Elkins (3-0). NKU is ranked 11th nationally
in the NCAA Division II poll.
The Indianapolis men
are 3-0 after knocking off Upper Iowa, 2-1, Wednesday. The Greyhound
women are also 3-0 following a 3-0 victory over Upper Iowa.
THE
LAST TIME AGAINST INDY: A year ago, the NKU men dropped
a 2-1 decision at Indianapolis. In the women’s game last season,
NKU posted a 2-1 win over the Greyhounds.
TOUGH
DEFENSE: Norse men’s goalie Andy Ortman has posted
a pair of shutouts in his first two games. NKU women’s goalie
Jenna Kramer has not allowed a goal in two games this season. Ortman
is a junior and a transfer from Cincinnati State, while Kramer is
a freshman from Seton High School in Cincinnati.
