ROLLA, Mo. - David Lies
scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season Sunday as the
Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team defeated Missouri-Rolla,
1-0.
Freshman goalie Anthony
Sucietto recorded the shutout and had four saves as NKU improved
to 9-4-1 overall, 6-2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Missouri-Rolla
dropped to 6-6-2 overall, 4-4-2 in the GLVC.
Lies, a senior defender
who has five goals this season, snapped the scoreless tie in the
61st minute by sending a header past Missouri-Rolla goalie Mike
McNamee. The goal was set up by Kyle Roberts, who sent a free kick
into the box.
It marked the third
consecutive time NKU has beaten Missouri-Rolla on the Miners’
home field. The Norse also posted road victories against Missouri-Rolla
in 2002 and last season.
NKU will return home
next Friday to meet defending NCAA Division II national runner-up
Southern Illinois at Edwardsville at 7:30 p.m. in Wilder, Ky. SIUE

NKU is looking to secure
a first-round home game in the upcoming GLVC Tournament. The Norse
