HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team begins a three-game road trip Wednesday with a 4 p.m. contest at Ashland.

NKU resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference play at 8:30 p.m. Friday with a road game at Missouri-St. Louis. The Norse conclude the trip Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with a GLVC contest at Missouri-Rolla.

NKU is 8-3 overall after defeating Bellarmine, 3-1, last Sunday. David Lies and Tony Capurro each scored goals in the second half to spark the Norse victory.

Jim Delaney added a first-half score for NKU, which is 5-2 in the GLVC. Delaney’s goal gave the Norse a 1-0 lead at the 19:44 mark.

Bellarmine drew even at the 48:22 mark when Ryan Pomeroy drilled a shot into the back of the net. Lies, however, countered by chipping a 12-yard shot over the head of Bellarmine goalie Justin Welply into the net to give NKU a 2-1 advantage at the 50:43 mark.

Capurro sealed the Norse victory at the 82:29 mark by taking a pass from Chris Thompson and beating Welply with a one-on-one breakaway shot to give NKU a 3-1 lead.

Lies, a senior defender, is tied for first place in the GLVC with three game-winning goals. Capurro leads NKU in goals scored with four, and he is tied for seventh place in the GLVC in points per game at 1.09.

Freshman goalie Anthony Sucietto played all 90 minutes for NKU and recorded three saves. It was the second straight win for Sucietto, who posted a shutout against Truman State on Friday.

NKU is tied with Indianapolis and Southern Illinois at Edwardsville for most shutouts this season with six.
