NKU PLAYS AT UW-PARKSIDE ON SUNDAY - Oct. 27, 2005
Norse travel to GLVC Tournament as No. 6 seed

David Lies has five game-winning goals

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team will play at Wisconsin-Parkside at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

The top four teams will host first-round GLVC Tournament games on Sunday. Southern Illinois at Edwardsville won the regular-season GLVC title and is the top seed. No. 2 seed Rockhurst, No. 3 seed Wisconsin-Parkside and No. 4 seed Quincy will also host first-round games.

The Norse (10-7-2 overall) enter the GLVC Tournament as the No. 6 seed. Earlier this season, Wisconsin-Parkside posted a 4-0 win at NKU. The Norse are 1-9-2 against the Rangers during the past nine seasons.

Wisconsin-Parkside (13-3-1 overall) finished 9-3-1 in the GLVC, but the Rangers ended the regular season Sunday with a stunning 1-0 loss at Kentucky Wesleyan. It marked the first conference win in nearly five years for Kentucky Wesleyan.

NKU has not won a game in the GLVC Tournament since 1997, when the sixth-seeded Norse scored a 1-0 upset over third-seeded Lewis at Romeoville, Ill.

NKU dropped a 2-1 decision to Indianapolis last Sunday. Andy Bacon netted a goal in the second half for the Norse, who could not recover from a 2-0 halftime deficit.

Senior defender David Lies has six goals this season for NKU. Lies is tied for first place in the GLVC with five game-winning goals.
