WILDER, Ky. - Dan O’Leary
scored a pair of second-half goals Sunday as the Quincy men’s
soccer team posted a 3-0 win over Northern Kentucky University at
the Town & Country Sports Complex.
O’Leary’s
first goal came on a 12-yard shot at the 51:59 mark after controlling
a loose ball in the box. He added his second score 67 seconds later
by taking a cross from Vuk Kojic and knocking a header past Norse
goalie Anthony Sucietto into the back of the net.
Kojic sealed the win for Quincy with a goal off an assist from
Brad Niemann at the 87:59 mark. The Hawks improved to 9-4-3 overall,
6-3-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Quincy goalie Brian
Forrest notched the shutout and collected seven saves. The key save
by Forrest came in the first half, when the Hawk goalie blocked
a penalty kick taken by NKU’s Kyle Roberts after Quincy was
called for a handball in the box.
NKU dropped to 9-6-1 overall, 6-4-1 in the GLVC. The Norse had
an opportunity to wrap up a first-round home game in the upcoming
GLVC Tournament with a victory on Sunday, but Quincy instead vaulted
past NKU into fourth place in the league standings.
The top four teams will
host first-round GLVC Tournament games on Oct. 30. Southern Illinois
at Edwardsville is in first place with a 9-0-1 record, followed
by Rockhurst (9-2-1), Wisconsin-Parkside (8-2-1) and Quincy.
NKU will play host to
Gannon (Pa.) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Town & Country Sports
Complex. The Norse, now in fifth place in the GLVC standings, will
also visit Saint Joseph’s at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
