WILDER,
Ky. - Victor Pacheco converted a penalty kick in the second half
Friday night, and the Southern Illinois at Edwardsville men’s
soccer team held off Northern Kentucky University, 1-0, at the Town
& Country Sports Complex.
Pacheco’s penalty
kick came 15 minutes into the second half for SIUE, which is ranked
No. 2 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The Cougars have
not suffered a regular-season loss to a Great Lakes Valley Conference
team in three years and own a 31-game unbeaten streak during that
span.
Nicholas
Frasca recorded the shutout with four saves for SIUE, which improved
to 12-1-1 overall, 8-0-1 in the GLVC. NKU dropped to 9-5-1 overall,
6-3-1 in the GLVC.
Freshman Anthony Sucietto
played all 90 minutes in goal for NKU and had two saves.
NKU is currently in
fourth place in the GLVC, and the top four teams will host first-round
GLVC Tournament games on Oct. 30. NKU
will meet Quincy at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in a key GLVC contest.
Quincy is 5-3-2 in the
GLVC and needs a win Sunday to have a chance at earning the No.
4 seed. If NKU defeats Quincy, the Norse will likely get a home
game in the first round.
