HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern
Kentucky University men’s soccer head coach John Basalyga
has added the following recruits for the 2006 season. They are:
•Mirza Causevic,
a transfer from Cincinnati State. In his two seasons at Cincinnati
State, Causevic scored 27 goals and finished with 29 assists. The
2004 Oak Hills High School graduate was named NSCAA/adidas All-North
Region while being ranked in the top 10 in the nation in scoring
last season.
•Chad Cook, a
transfer from Cincinnati State. Cook was named NSCAA/adidas All-North
Region as a defender. Before transferring to Cincinnati State, Cook
played a season at the University of Cincinnati. As a junior and
senior at Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, he earned Southwest
Ohio High School Soccer Coaches Association, All-Greater Miami Conference
and all-city and all-state accolades.
•Andrew Ortman,
NKU’s third recruit from Cincinnati State. Ortman was one
of the nation’s top goalies and finished with a 0.364 goals
against average, which was tops in the NJCAA. He also earned NJCAA
All-America honors and finished with a 33-2-2 record in two seasons.
A 2004 graduate of Roger Bacon High School, Ortman was named Greater
Catholic League Player of the Year as a senior.
•Alex Allison,
a 2006 graduate of Little Miami High School. Allison, a forward,
led the city in goals and assists and was named all-city first team
as a senior. He also earned All-Ohio honors during the 2005 season.
•Braden Bishop,
a 2006 graduate of Centerville High School in Centerville, Ohio.
Bishop finished the 2005 season with 12 goals - including seven
that won games for the Elks - and six assists. He received first
team All-Greater Western Ohio Conference and second team South Sectional
honors in 2005. He also led Centerville to the GWOC and district
championships as a junior and senior.
•David Todd, also
a 2006 graduate of Centerville High School. Todd totaled 27 assists
during the past two seasons and was named All-GWOC and All-Region
IV. He helped the Elks post a 16-3-1 record last fall.
•Seth Eckerlin,
a 2006 graduate of Northwest High School. Eckerlin was named the
Fort Ancient Valley Conference Player of the Year after leading
the Knights in scoring (14 goals, 20 assists) as a senior. Eckerlin
also helped Northwest capture the FAVC Cardinal Division title in
2005 and was named to the All-Southwest Ohio first team.
Those recruits will
join an NKU team that posted an 11-8-2 overall record last season.
The Norse finished 6-5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
