WILDER, Ky. - David
Botos scored a goal and added an assist Sunday afternoon as the
Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team posted a 3-1
win over Mercyhurst (Pa.) at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Chris Thompson collected
two assists as NKU evened its record at 1-1. Daniel Ertel tallied
his second goal of the season for the Norse, while teammate Tony
Capurro added an insurance goal late in the contest.
Botos gave NKU a 1-0
lead 15 minutes into the game by taking a cross from Thompson and
finishing for his first goal of the year. Mercyhurst (0-2), however,
tied the contest at 1-1 at the 23:33 mark when Jeff Oblock scored
a goal.
NKU regained the lead
at the 67:34 mark when Botos placed a perfect cross to Ertel, who
beat Mercyhurst goalie Daniel Mudd with a shot. Capurro sealed the
victory for NKU with a goal off a pass from Thompson.
Jeremy Curington had
six saves in goal for NKU, which split its two games in the John
Toebben Classic, presented by National City.
Lincoln Memorial defeated
Bellarmine, 1-0, in the first game of the John Toebben Classic on
Sunday.
NKU will play host to
Saginaw Valley State next Saturday at 7 p.m.
