LMU RALLIES LATE TO STUN NKU IN OT- Aug. 27, 2005
Lincoln Memorial takes 3-2 victory in two overtimes to ruin Norse’s season opener

Daniel Ertel

WILDER, Ky. - Frederico Moojen scored three goals - including the winning tally 2:54 into the second overtime - as the Lincoln Memorial men’s soccer team rallied to stun Northern Kentucky University, 3-2, at the Town & Country Sports Complex on Saturday.

Leonardo de Barros sent a corner kick into the box, where Moojen met the ball in the air and sent a header past NKU goalie Jeremy Curington for the winner at the 102:54 mark. The Railsplitters - who trailed 2-0 with 12 minutes remaining in regulation - improved to 1-0 and ruined NKU’s season opener in the John Toebben Classic, presented by National City.

NKU took a 1-0 lead at the 32:36 mark when freshman Daniel Ertel took a cross from Tony Ray and scored his first collegiate goal. The Norse increased their advantage to 2-0 in the 69th minute on freshman Jim Delaney’s first career goal that was assisted by Andrew Leconey.

Moojen, however, chipped in an unassisted goal at the 78:52 mark to bring Lincoln Memorial within 2-1. He later tied the contest at 2-2 with a penalty kick in the 83rd minute after a foul in the penalty box.

Earlier in the second half, Moojen had attempted a penalty kick that Curington blocked to preserve a 2-0 NKU lead.

NKU will meet Mercyhurst - a 2-0 loser to Bellarmine on Saturday - at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
