ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Harrison Morton scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Northern Kentucky University won its second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division championship with an 88-78 victory at Lewis on Saturday.

Anthony Teague added 17 points as NKU improved to 20-6 overall, 14-5 in the GLVC. The Norse earned the East Division title when Saint Joseph’s knocked off Kentucky Wesleyan, 71-67, Saturday.

NKU and Kentucky Wesleyan each finished with 14-5 GLVC records, but the Norse swept both games from the Panthers this season to earn the East Division title and No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament. NKU will meet Lewis at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in Regents Hall.

“It’s a great feeling to repeat as GLVC East champions, and we did it against a very good Lewis team that never quit,” NKU head coach Dave Bezold said. “Anthony Teague shot the ball very well and really provided us with a big boost. Harrison Morton was very aggressive and continued his outstanding play.”

Scott Bibbins scored 16 points for NKU, which made 59.2 percent of its shots from the field. Morton finished 9-for-10 from the field and made all eight of his free throws. NKU began the game by hitting five 3-pointers in the first four minutes to build a 17-6 lead. Vincent Humphrey buried a pair of treys to spark the early spurt.

The Norse led by as many as 23 points in the second half and coasted to their second straight 20-win season. It earned NKU a rematch with Lewis in just three days in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament, and a final chance to play in Regents Hall.

NKU will play its home games next season in its new on-campus facility, The Bank of Kentucky Center.

“That’s a very tough first-round game, and you know Lewis is going to be ready for us Tuesday night,” Bezold said. “The guys on this team have done a great job in getting to 20 wins and repeating as GLVC East champions, but we would like to win the GLVC Tournament this year as well. That’s the goal, but we also know it’s not going to be easy because there are so many good teams in this league.”
