---Steven Wright was named GLVC Player of the Year on Wednesday. Wright, a senior guard from Dayton, Ohio, leads NKU in scoring (16.9 ppg) and has 32 dunks this season.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Northern Kentucky University's Steven Wright has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.

Wright, a senior guard from Dayton, Ohio, enters the GLVC Tournament as NKU's leader in scoring (16.9), rebounding (5.5 rpg), steals (45) and minutes played (32.2 mpg). The former Colonel White High School standout also became one of the most electrifying players in Norse history with his resounding dunks, and his 32 slams this season are the most by a guard in NKU history.

Wright has led NKU in scoring 11 times this season with a single-game high of 29 against SIUE on Dec. 2. He is the first NKU men's basketball performer to earn GLVC Player of the Year honors since 1989, when Derek Fields received the award.

Wright led NKU to a 20-7 overall record and helped the Norse capture the GLVC East Division title. It marks the first time in four years that NKU has reached the 20-win plateau.

Joining Wright on the All-GLVC first team is Drury’s Collins Harris, Lewis’ Brandon Dagans, Quincy's Joel Box and Southern Indiana’s Rashard Sullivan.

The All-GLVC second team consists of Drury’s Brandon Kimbrough, Quincy’s Andre Muse, Saint Joseph’s Ronald Coleman, Southern Indiana’s Melvin Hall and Wisconsin-Parkside’s LaVontay Fenderson.

Southern Indiana's Rick Herdes was named the GLVC Coach of the Year. In his sixth season with the Screaming Eagles, Herdes has compiled a 25-5 overall record in 2006-07 and guided his squad to a GLVC West title. It is the fifth consecutive season his team has reached the 25-win mark.

The GLVC Freshman of the Year is Missouri-Rolla’s Justin Taylor, who averaged 9.4 points per game for the Miners while logging a team-high 31.9 minutes played per game.

NKU faces Rockhurst at noon (CST) Thursday in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament, which will be held in Roberts Stadium at Evansville, Ind. NKU is the No. 1 seed from the GLVC East Division, while Rockhurst qualified as a wild-card entrant as the No. 4 seed from the GLVC West.

NKU is ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll, while Rockhurst is No. 7 in the poll.
