SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The second-half shooting woes resurfaced again Thursday night for Northern Kentucky University. Needless to say, a tough road loss ensued for the Norse. NKU shot just 9-for-29 from the field in the second half and dropped a 78-69 decision to Drury in Weiser Gym. Collins Harris and Brandon Kimbrough each scored 16 points as the Panthers fought back from a 48-41 deficit in the second half to knock off the Norse. Drury improved to 13-7 overall, 6-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU dropped to 14-6 overall, 7-5 in the GLVC. NKU connected on 51.9 percent from the field in the first half and shot 7-for-16 from 3-point range to forge a 40-37 lead at the break. Vincent Humphrey's trey from downtown at the buzzer gave the Norse the advantage at halftime. "We were living on the 3-pointers in the first half, and then, all of a sudden, we can't make a shot again in the second half," NKU head coach Dave Bezold said. "We have to put two good halves of basketball together and make open shots." Steven Wright scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead NKU. Anthony Teague came off the bench and added 17 points, including 5-for-10 shooting from 3-point range. After NKU took a 48-41 lead on a runner by Humphrey, Drury responded with a 16-4 run to take a 57-52 advantage. The Norse tied the game at 57-all on a layup by Wright with 8:50 left in the game, but Drury used a 14-4 spurt to take a 71-61 lead. Teague drained a 3-pointer to bring NKU within 71-64 with 1:11 remaining, but Drury made seven free throws in the final 1:07 to ice the victory. NKU concludes the trip Saturday with a 4 p.m. game at Rockhurst. |
