HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University hits the road for a game against two-time NCAA Division II national champion North Alabama at 4 p.m. Saturday in Florence, Ala.

NKU is 6-3 after posting a 94-58 victory over UC-Clermont on Dec. 23. North Alabama, which won national titles in 1979 and ’91, is 6-7 overall. The Lions are one of the highest-scoring teams in Division II, averaging nearly 90 points per game.

After playing North Alabama, NKU resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference play Jan. 4 with a road game at Wisconsin-Parkside. The Norse then travel to Romeoville, Ill., on Jan. 6 to meet Lewis in another GLVC contest.

OFFENSIVE SHOW: During NKU’s win over UC-Clermont, Steven Wright finished with 17 points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and no turnovers in 23 minutes of action.

Kevin Schappell, who drained four 3-point shots en route to a game-high 18 points, also grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds in that win. Vincent Humphrey scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Humphrey also hit four 3-pointers as the Norse shot 15-for-36 from long range.

IN THE GLVC: Steven Wright ranks sixth in scoring at 16.4 ppg. The senior guard is 12th in field-goal percentage (.567). Norse junior forward Harrison Morton is third in field-goal percentage (.628), and senior guard Kevin Schappell is 10th in 3-point shooting at .469.

ON THE ROAD: NKU is 0-2 on the road this season. The Norse dropped a 78-66 decision at Bellarmine on Nov. 21, and NKU fell victim at Findlay by a 59-53 score on Dec. 9. NKU is 6-1 at home this season.

FIRST MEETING: This will mark the first meeting between NKU and North Alabama in men’s basketball. Both teams advanced to the 1996 NCAA Division II Elite Eight at Louisville, Ky., and North Alabama lost to eventual champion Fort Hays State in the national quarterfinals. NKU lost to Fort Hays State in the national championship game.
