HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Former Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball standout Paul Cluxton is a finalist for the NCAA Division II 50th Anniversary Team.

The 50th anniversary of the NCAA Division II men’s Elite Eight will be celebrated throughout the 2005-06 championship season. The NCAA Division II men’s championship began in 1957 and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary at this season’s Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass., the site of the first Division II national championship

To commemorate this milestone, a 50th Anniversary Team consisting of 10 student-athletes and two coaches will be selected.

Cluxton, who played at NKU from 1993-97, scored 1,495 career points for the Norse. He also set an NCAA all-divisions record as a senior by making all 94 of his free-throw attempts - the only player in collegiate basketball history to accomplish that feat.

During his final two seasons Cluxton converted 98 consecutive free throws. He finished his career with a .934 percentage from the line, which is also the best in NCAA history.

A graduate of Lynchburg-Clay (Ohio) High School, Cluxton led NKU to the NCAA Division II national championship game in 1996 and ’97. The Norse finished as national runner-up both times.

Cluxton was named third team All-American by the NABC in 1997, and he earned the most outstanding player honor of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional as a junior at Evansville, Ind.

Cluxton averaged 13.3 points in six career Elite Eight games and was named to the all-tournament team in 1996 and ’97.
