HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Kevin Schappell has been
named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in men’s
basketball.
Schappell,
a 6-foot-3 junior guard/forward and a graduate of Loveland High
School, averaged 20 points per game and shot 56.5 percent from the
field as the Norse swept GLVC rivals Rockhurst and Drury over the
weekend. He also averaged 3.5 steals in those two victories.
Schappell began
the week by scoring 16 points, grabbing six rebounds and recording
four steals in the Norse’s 58-55 win over Rockhurst. He also
hit four clutch free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.
Schappell then
scored a career-high 24 points on Saturday as NKU remained unbeaten
(5-0) with a 64-46 win over Drury. In that game, Schappell hit five
3-point shots and added three steals. He scored 16 of his points
in the first half as NKU built a 19-point lead.
Schappell leads
NKU in scoring at 15.4 ppg, and he is shooting 63.2 percent from
both the field and 3-point range. He has also converted 85 percent
of his free throws.
NKU will play
at Indianapolis in a GLVC game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
