NKU vs. SIUE (March 5, 2005)

Head Coach Dave Bezold

On the play of Mike Kelsey…
“He has a very quick release and extreme confidence.  He’s one of those players who knows when he’s on and when’s he’s not.  He’ll let the game come to him, and that is what is so special about him.”

On Mike Kelsey’s shooting ability…
“He wasn’t a great shooter when he came here.  He has an extraordinary work ethic.  The other thing you see is that he doesn’t get tired.”

On NKU’s hot shooting…
“We were fortunate that we were shooting that well against Edwardsville.  We never felt comfortable because they are such a good team and they are so confident on their system and what they do.”

Mike Kelsey

On how NKU got on top early…
“We wanted to come out again today like we did on Thursday and get on top again.  If we come out flat, we’re probably going to play flat.  If we come out hot, we would probably be in the whole game and hopefully we can come out hot tomorrow. ”

How the team’s record didn’t really show how they were playing…
“It’s been up and down.  We’ve had a lot of inconsistencies this year.  This is a team with a lot of seniors.  The next game we lose we’re out.  The seniors stepped up and the underclassmen stepped up.  It’s definitely not the team people saw earlier in the year.”

On how the Indy game gave them a lift…
“Indy beat us pretty bad both times this year.  Coming in, people weren’t really giving us much chance.  Coach Bezold built our confidence up saying that we could beat any of the teams here since we had played with them all year.  We just had to get over the hump and get a ‘W’.”
