HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. – The
Northern Kentucky University baseball and softball teams have
each signed two student-athletes
to play for the Norse beginning in the 2009 season.
Baseball
- Max Colaner, a senior from Massillon, Ohio, plays outfield
at Canton Central Catholic High School. Colaner hit .407 during
his junior
year for the Crusaders, including seven triples and 22 RBI.
In 64 career prep games, Colaner has 69 hits. He was named an honorable
mention All-State performer in 2007.
- Mike Roe,
a senior from Middletown, Ohio, is a pitcher and first baseman
at Madison High
School. Roe posted a 4-1 record
with
a 0.49 ERA during his junior year. Roe averaged 1.9 strikeouts
per
inning, including a 17-strikeout game for the Mohawks.
Roe also hit .587 with five home runs and 32 RBI. Roe has earned
first-team
All-Southwestern Buckeye League honors the past two seasons.
Softball
- Rachel May, a senior from Westerville, Ohio, is a utility
player at Thomas Worthington High School. May hit .390
with 31 RBI
for the Cardinals including five doubles and four triples
during her junior season. She was named an honorable mention
All-Metro
player
in the Columbus area. May also excels in the classroom,
earning eight Scholar Athlete awards.
- Alexa McCaslin, a senior
from Hawesville, Ky., plays outfield at Hancock County High School.
McCaslin combines power
and accuracy, owning a .367 batting average with four
home runs
and 41 RBI.
She
has also swiped 15 bases for the Hornets. McCaslin is
a reliable defender as well, owning a .989 fielding percentage.
Both teams will begin their 2008 seasons in late Feburary, with
the baseball team hosting Grand Valley State and
Wayne State
in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge, while the softball team
will travel to
Decatur, Ala. for the Charger Chillout. |
