LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team suffered a setback on Saturday after being swept by Bellarmine in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

The Norse gave up 10 runs in the first two innings of Game 1 and fought back valiantly, scoring one in the third on a Jake Shaffer sacrifice fly and five in the fifth on doubles from Shaffer and Evan McDole and a two-run single from Larry Pempek, but Bellarmine held on for the 11-6 decision.

Andy Heston pitched five innings of relief, giving up no earned runs, while Kevin Jordan closed out the final 1 1/3 innings.

Bellarmine cracked open the scorebook with two runs in the third and five more in the fourth to cruise to an 8-0 win in the nightcap. Derek Mattingly (6-2) got the shutout for the Knights, striking out two while scattering just five hits.

Brandon Slusher (3-2) took the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Cameron Betourne made his first appearance in almost six weeks, walking two batters before being relieved.
