EVANSVILLE,
Ind. – A four-run outburst in the sixth inning lifted 25th-ranked
Southern Indiana to a 7-4 win over Northern Kentucky University
in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon.
NKU (24-15) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Kevin
Dusold provided the key hit with a two-run triple down the left-field
line. Evan McDole then plated Dusold with an RBI single to give
the Norse a 3-0 advantage.
Southern Indiana (27-12) chipped away at the NKU lead by scoring
two runs in the third inning, but the Norse countered by pushing
across an unearned run in the top of the fourth take a 4-2 advantage.
The Screaming Eagles cut the deficit to 4-3 with another run
in the bottom of the fourth.
In the sixth inning, Southern Indiana scored four runs by collecting
five singles and a hit batter off NKU reliever Andy Heston to
rally for a 7-4 lead. Southern Indiana closer Shaun Larson pitched
a scoreless ninth inning to record his 11th save of the season.
Dusold went 2-for-4 at the plate for NKU, and McDole finished
2-for-3. Jon Back was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Norse.
NKU begins a four-game weekend series at Bellarmine with a noon
doubleheader on Saturday. The Norse meet the Knights in another
doubleheader on Sunday at noon.
NKU is 15-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and is in second
place in the GLVC East Division.
