FRANKFORT,
Ky. - Another day and its another strong offensive outing for
the Northern Kentucky University baseball team as the Norse swept
a doubleheader from Kentucky State (2-19) by scores of 17-2 and
16-2
with both games being called after the sixth inning due to the
10-run mercy rule.
Game 1 saw
the Norse forge their way to an early 4-0 lead after the top
of the first and they never looked back. Eight of the nine starters
collected at least one hit with four batters going 2-for-5
(Pat Muth, Kevin Dusold, Larry Pempek, and Aaron Mentz).
In
addition to two hits, Muth also collected four RBIs and scored
three runs while Jon Back was 1-for-4 with three RBIs and two
runs scored.
Eric Braeckel
(1-2) picked up his first win on the season as a starter by pitching
four strong innings and allowing just four hits, striking out
five, and giving up two unearned runs. Cody Besselman hurled
the final two innings and didn't allow a Thorobred hit.
Game 2
once again saw eight of the nine starters collect a minimum
of one hit for the Norse, who scored at least one run in every
inning en route to the sweep.
Jason Cisper
led the Norse at the plate with a 3-for-5 hitting performance
and drove in two. Jeff Bohlen, Brad Johnson, and Jack Ambrose
collected two hits each for Todd Asalon's club.
Bohlen, John
Pasquale, and Ian Durbin knocked in three RBIs apiece.
Andy Karpowicz
(2-0) collected a win in a game that saw Asalon use a plethora
of pitchers. Karpowicz led a staff of five Norse hurlers that
allowed KSU two runs on just three hits and struck out eight
Thorobreds.
NKU will take
to the road to face Lewis University in Great Lakes Valley Conference
action on April 5-6. The Flyers from Romeoville, Ill., are currently
7-12 overall and 2-6 in GLVC play. First pitch is scheduled for
1 p.m. EDT each day.
