QUINCY, Ill. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team found its offensive stroke, pounding out 25 runs to sweep a doubleheader against Truman State, 9-5 and 16-4.

After Truman got on the board with a run in the top of the first, NKU answered with two each in the first and third innings to open a 4-1 advantage. After Truman exploded for four more in the top of the fourth, the Norse continued to pour on the offense, scoring two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Cameron Betourne pitched four innings, striking out two without factoring into the decision. Dave Middendorf (1-1) got the win, giving up one hit and striking out two in two innings of relief. Eric Braeckel came on to slam the door in the seventh. Offensively, Kevin Dusold was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Jason Cisper was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

It was big innings that made the difference in Game 2 of the doubleheader, with NKU scoring six in the second and eight in the sixth to post a 16-4 victory. Senior Jon Back went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Pat Muth was 2-for-4 and drove in four in the whitewashing.

Andy Karpowicz (1-0) took the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. Kevin Jordan pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief.

The Norse (3-8) will move into Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Saturday when they travel to face Drury. First pitch is scheduled for noon.

SCHEDULE NOTE: The non-conference doubleheaders scheduled for this week against Findlay and Tiffin have been canceled due to the weather conditions in the Northern Kentucky area.
