HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University's Brian Beltz has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week. Beltz, a senior and a graduate of Ballard High School in Louisville, Ky., hurled a one-hitter last week during a 2-0 victory over Bellarmine at Champion Window Field in Florence, Ky. The left-hander struck out 12 batters en route to the complete-game shutout, and he allowed just an infield single in nine innings on the mound. Beltz is currently 2-2 with a 3.86 earned run average. He has 28 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings on the mound and has limited opposing hitters to a .213 batting average. NKU - which has played one of the nation's toughest schedules early in the season - travels to Rensselaer, Ind., on Wednesday to meet Saint Joseph's in a GLVC doubleheader. The Norse will then play a four-game series at Springfield, Mo., against Drury this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday. NKU is 8-15 overall, 7-5 in the GLVC. The Norse are tied for fourth place in the GLVC standings. |
