FLORENCE, Ky.
- Northern Kentucky University swept a Great Lakes Valley Conference
doubleheader from Lewis on Friday afternoon by scores of 8-3 and
5-0 at Champion Window Field.
NKU scored five
times in the second inning of the opener and coasted to the victory.
Freshman Patrick Muth and senior Kory Lonergan each collected two-run
singles during the second inning.
Lonergan and
teammate Jake Shaffer each went 3-for-3 at the plate for NKU. Lonergan
also drove in three runs and stole three bases in the opening game.
Matt Marksbury
struck out eight Lewis batters and improved to 5-0 with the complete-game
victory. The senior right-hander scattered 10 hits in seven innings
on the mound and did not walk a batter.
In the nightcap,
senior left-hander Josh Bruns allowed just three hits in six inning
of work and struck out eight as NKU posted a 5-0 win. Freshman first
baseman Evan McDole was 4-for-4 and scored two runs for NKU, which
improved to 14-18 overall, 12-8 in the GLVC.
Matt Wagers
also scored twice for the Norse, who took advantage of three errors
by Lewis to score a pair of unearned runs.
NKU will play
host to Lewis at 2 p.m. Saturday in a GLVC game.
