FLORENCE, Ky.
- Aaron Mentz belted a three-run homer in the seventh inning to
snap a 6-all tie as Northern Kentucky University rallied to defeat
Wilmington (Ohio), 11-6, Thursday night at Champion Window Field.
Mentz was 2-for-3
with four runs batted in for NKU, which improved to 20-19 overall.
Wilmington (13-11) owned a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the
seventh, but NKU pushed across a run to tie the score at 6-all.
With two outs,
Mentz stepped to the plate and blasted a drive over the left-field
wall to give NKU a 9-6 lead. It was the first home run of the season
for Mentz, a native of Greensburg, Ind.
Kevin Quick
came out of the bullpen for NKU and allowed just one run in 3 1/3
innings on the mound to pick up the victory. Jake Shaffer went 3-for-4
and scored twice for the Norse, while teammate Brian DeCarlo was
2-for-3 with two RBI.
Kenny Wilson
and Patrick Muth each added two hits for NKU.
NKU will resume
Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader
at Wisconsin-Parkside.
