HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- Three Northern Kentucky University baseball players have earned
All-North Central Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches
Association.
Senior catcher Conor
McGeehan, senior closer Steve Thomas and junior starting pitcher
Josh Bruns each were voted to the second team. Those three players
helped NKU win the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship this
spring and finish with a 42-20-1 record.
McGeehan, a graduate
of Lebanon High School, batted .302 with three home runs and 12
doubles this season. McGeehan also committed just one error behind
the plate this season (a .998 fielding percentage) and was named
first team All-GLVC.
Thomas, a graduate of
Elder High School in Cincinnati, posted a 5-0 record with 11 saves
and a 1.05 earned run average. Thomas set an NKU record by pitching
28 consecutive scoreless innings this season and was also named
first team All-GLVC.
Bruns, a native of Versailles,
Ohio, was 8-2 with a 2.86 ERA. The junior left-hander struck out
64 batters in 78 2/3 innings on the mound and walked just 11. Bruns
also earned All-GLVC honors this season.
NKU advanced to the
NCAA Division II Tournament this season and was the No. 2 seed at
the North Central Regional. It marked the third time in the past
five years that the Norse earned a berth in the NCAA Division II
Tournament.
