McGeehan, Thomas and Bruns earn All-North Central Region accolades

NKU’s Conor McGeehan

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Three Northern Kentucky University baseball players have earned All-North Central Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Senior catcher Conor McGeehan, senior closer Steve Thomas and junior starting pitcher Josh Bruns each were voted to the second team. Those three players helped NKU win the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship this spring and finish with a 42-20-1 record.

McGeehan, a graduate of Lebanon High School, batted .302 with three home runs and 12 doubles this season. McGeehan also committed just one error behind the plate this season (a .998 fielding percentage) and was named first team All-GLVC.

Thomas, a graduate of Elder High School in Cincinnati, posted a 5-0 record with 11 saves and a 1.05 earned run average. Thomas set an NKU record by pitching 28 consecutive scoreless innings this season and was also named first team All-GLVC.

Bruns, a native of Versailles, Ohio, was 8-2 with a 2.86 ERA. The junior left-hander struck out 64 batters in 78 2/3 innings on the mound and walked just 11. Bruns also earned All-GLVC honors this season.

NKU advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament this season and was the No. 2 seed at the North Central Regional. It marked the third time in the past five years that the Norse earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
