HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Paul David Patterson
has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week
in baseball, the league office announced Monday.
Patterson tossed a one-hitter
last Saturday as NKU defeated Wisconsin-Parkside, 3-0, in the second
game of a road doubleheader. Patterson, a 6-foot-8 senior right-hander,
struck out 10 batters and walked just one en route to the complete-game
victory.
The only hit Patterson
allowed was a single by Andy Heller to start the fifth inning. Patterson
lowered his earned run average to 2.07, and it was his third complete
game of the season.
Patterson, from Nicholasville,
Ky., is now 5-3 this spring. His performance has helped NKU forge
a 34-17-1 overall record going into the final week of the regular
season.
NKU also leads the GLVC
with a 32-11-1 record, and the Norse’s magic number to wrap
up the regular-season title is two. NKU will play a four-game series
at Missouri-Rolla this week.
If the Norse capture
the regular-season championship, they will earn the No. 1 seed at
the upcoming GLVC Tournament at Sauget, Ill. The GLVC Tournament
begins May 11 and will feature the top six teams in the league standings.
