HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- Northern Kentucky University athletic director Jane Meier has
been chosen as one of the Outstanding Women of Northern Kentucky
award winners for 2005-06.
The Outstanding Women
of Northern Kentucky awards are sponsored by The Kentucky Post,
NKU and Thomas More College to honor women whose lives exemplify
achievement, service, integrity, perseverance and leadership.
Honorees for the 22nd
annual award were Meier, Kim Banta, Julie Boudousquie, Cheryl Rushin,
and Grace Wilson.
During the past 18 years,
Meier has built the NKU athletics program into one of the nation’s
best. This past academic year, NKU captured the Great Lakes Valley
Conference All-Sports Trophy for the fifth time in the past seven
seasons.
The Norse won GLVC championships
in four sports (women’s soccer, men’s golf, baseball
and women’s basketball) and sent six teams to the NCAA Division
II Tournament.
NKU has now won the
GLVC All-Sports Trophy in 2000, ’01, ’02, ’05
and ’06. In addition, NKU was awarded the GLVC Commissioner’s
Cup for the third time in the past four years.
Since Meier became athletic
director in 1988, NKU has won or shared 44 GLVC regular-season or
tournament championships. In addition, 39 NKU student-athletes have
been named GLVC Player of the Year during Meier’s tenure as
athletic director.
In addition, NKU has
produced nine NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients during the
past seven years and six GLVC Paragon Award winners since 1992.
In 2004, Meier was chosen
as a recipient of the Athletic Director of the Year Award by the
National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. Meier
was honored as the NCAA Division II Southeast Region’s 2003-04
Athletic Director of the Year by NACDA.
During the 2000-01 academic
year, Meier was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s
National Administrator of the Year.
