HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University athletic director Jane Meier has been chosen as one of the Outstanding Women of Northern Kentucky award winners for 2005-06.

The Outstanding Women of Northern Kentucky awards are sponsored by The Kentucky Post, NKU and Thomas More College to honor women whose lives exemplify achievement, service, integrity, perseverance and leadership.

Honorees for the 22nd annual award were Meier, Kim Banta, Julie Boudousquie, Cheryl Rushin, and Grace Wilson.

During the past 18 years, Meier has built the NKU athletics program into one of the nation’s best. This past academic year, NKU captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy for the fifth time in the past seven seasons.

The Norse won GLVC championships in four sports (women’s soccer, men’s golf, baseball and women’s basketball) and sent six teams to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

NKU has now won the GLVC All-Sports Trophy in 2000, ’01, ’02, ’05 and ’06. In addition, NKU was awarded the GLVC Commissioner’s Cup for the third time in the past four years.

Since Meier became athletic director in 1988, NKU has won or shared 44 GLVC regular-season or tournament championships. In addition, 39 NKU student-athletes have been named GLVC Player of the Year during Meier’s tenure as athletic director.

In addition, NKU has produced nine NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients during the past seven years and six GLVC Paragon Award winners since 1992.

In 2004, Meier was chosen as a recipient of the Athletic Director of the Year Award by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. Meier was honored as the NCAA Division II Southeast Region’s 2003-04 Athletic Director of the Year by NACDA.

During the 2000-01 academic year, Meier was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s National Administrator of the Year.
