SAUGET, Ill.
- The Northern Kentucky University baseball team split a doubleheader
at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, dropping a 5-4 decision in 10
innings in the opener, but bouncing back to win the nightcap, 5-4.
Tony Soaib lined a base
hit up the middle to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the
10th to give Missouri-St. Louis the win in the first game. NKU jumped
out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, but the Rivermen rallied with
three runs in the third and the tying run in the fourth.
Kory Lonergan was 3-for-5
with two runs batted in for NKU in the opener. Lonergan also scored
twice, but the Missouri-St. Louis snapped the Norse’s winning
streak at eight games.
In the nightcap, NKU
built an early 5-0 lead and held off Missouri-St. Louis for the
split. Chris Nann had two RBI for the Norse, while Brian Beltz went
five innings to notch the win.
Mark Bogenschutz pitched
two innings and recorded the save for NKU, which improved to 14-9-1
overall, 12-5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Missouri-St. Louis is
4-8 overall, 3-6 in the GLVC.
The two teams will wrap
up the four-game series at noon Sunday with another doubleheader.
