LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University golf coach Daryl Landrum has been named the 2006 Kentucky Section PGA Golf Professional of the Year.

Landrum received the KPGA Golf Professional of the Year award this past Monday at the KPGA awards presentation
at the Marriott East hotel. The Golf Professional of the Year is the highest honor paid to a PGA Professional. The following guidelines are used to determine nominees for this prestigious award:

•Overall performance as a golf professional at his/her facility.

•Level of service to his/her section, and to the Association.

•Leadership ability.

•Image and the ability to inspire fellow professionals.

•Promotion of golf.

There are 41 PGA sections across the country, and section award guidelines are set by the PGA of America. Kentucky takes nominations, and the nominees are asked to complete paperwork. The committee meets to discuss and vote on candidates.

Landrum has built NKU into a Great Lakes Valley Conference power and a perennial contender for the regional championship in both men's and women's golf. A 1976 graduate of Grant County High School, played three years of golf at Campbellsville (Ky.) College and earned NAIA All-District honors in 1978 and '79.

In addition, he was twice named Campbellsville's most valuable golfer. Landrum, a native of Crittenden, Ky., has also played a major role in organization of the Seven-Up Junior Golf Tour in the area.
