REND LAKE, Ill. - The
Northern Kentucky University men’s
golf team performed well in their final regional tune-up, placing
second in the Great Lakes Regional Invitational at Lockhaven Golf
Course. Jon Ehlen (73-73) and Andrew Jewell (72-74) shot matching
scores of 146 to lead the Norse and claim a share of fifth place
in the event. Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year
David Shearer was one stroke behind (71-76), sharing eighth place.
Michael Kessling’s 151 (74-77) tied him at 26th, while Clint
Kohls shot a 157 (77-80) to finish in 67th.
Wayne State’s Brett Hudson placed first individually with
a 139 (71-68) as his teammates rallied to take the team title as
well with a 574 (278-278) total score. NKU followed in second with
a 590 (290-300) out of the 19 team field.
The GLVC champion Norse, currently No. 1 in the NCAA Great Lakes
Region poll, await their selection to the NCAA Central/Great Lakes
Super Regional May 7-9 at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin,
Mo. The selections will be announced April 27 at 5 p.m. and will
be available on ncaasports.com.
