COLUMBUS, Ind.
- The Northern Kentucky University men’s golf team captured
its second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships
title on Tuesday, finishing the 54-hole tournament with a score
of 886 at the Otter Creek Golf Course.
David Shearer
shot a -1 (71) to finish the tournament at +3 (74-74-71 219) and
claim GLVC Player of the Year honors for the third straight season.
Clint Kohls shot an even-par 72 and totaled a +4 (74-74-42 220)
for second place in the event.
Kohls was also
named to the All-GLVC team for the second straight year. NKU's Daryl
Landrum was also named GLVC men's golf Coach of the Year.
Michael Kessling
finished tied for 10th place at +9 (75-74-76 225). Jon Ehlen's +11
(79-72-76 227) was good for 17th place, while Andrew Jewell rounded
out NKU's performance with a +12 (74-78-76 228), landing him
tied for 22nd place.
As a team the
Norse shot +22 (297-294-295 886) and bested second-place Southern
Illinois at Edwardsville by eight strokes. It was the second consecutive
tournament win for the Norse, as they took top honors at the University
of Cincinnati Invitational last week.
The Norse, currently
ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Poll, will move on
to the Great Lakes Regional Invitational April 20-22 at Lockhaven
Golf Course in Rend Lake, Ill.
EDINBURGH, Ind.
- Northern Kentucky University women's golfer Bianca Hutton shot
73 in the final round Tuesday to take medalist honors at the Great
Lakes Valley Conference Championships at Timbergate Golf Course.
Hutton shot
an even-par 144 (71-73) to win the individual event and earn GLVC
Player of the Year honors. Alicia Lawrence finished ninth with a
+8 (77-75 152), Sofie Rasmussen placed 12th after shooting +11 (78-77
155), and Nicole Hess' +22 (85-81 166) was good for a 31st place
result. Lyndsey Bevill brought a +23 (79-88 167) to the clubhouse
and tied for 32nd place in the event.
NKU's +35 (305-306—611)
fell eight strokes behind GLVC champion Drury and drew level with
Indianapolis (304-307 611) in the team event.
The Norse, currently
ranked No. 8 in the NCAA II East Region poll, will take a week off
before heading to Lockport, Ill., for the Lewis Aviator Classic
April 19-21.
