Shearer wins medal by shooting 3-under-par 69 in final round

COLUMBUS, Ind. - David Shearer shot a 3-under-par 69 during Tuesday’s final round to wrap up medalist honors as the Northern Kentucky University men’s golf team captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships by 15 strokes with a final score of 874.

Shearer, a junior from Charlevoix, Mich., finished the 54-hole event with a score of 209 (-7) at the Otter Creek Golf Course. Shearer, who also won the medal at last season’s GLVC Championships, finished with 16 birdies during the two-day event as NKU coasted to its first GLVC title since 2001.

Shearer finished four strokes better than runner-up Corey Sell (213) of Wisconsin-Parkside. NKU golfers Mark Krahe and Andrew Jewell each totaled 219 and tied for fifth place.

Bellarmine finished in second place with a score of 889, while Drury took third-place honors with 895.

NKU’s Daryl Landrum earned the GLVC Coach of the Year honor for the third time in his career as the Norse’s men’s coach. He also has been named GLVC Coach of the Year in women’s golf twice.
