COLUMBUS, Ind. - David
Shearer shot a 3-under-par 69 during Tuesday’s final round
to wrap up medalist honors as the Northern Kentucky University men’s
golf team captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships
by 15 strokes with a final score of 874.
Shearer, a junior from
Charlevoix, Mich., finished the 54-hole event with a score of 209
(-7) at the Otter Creek Golf Course. Shearer, who also won the medal
at last season’s GLVC Championships, finished with 16 birdies
during the two-day event as NKU coasted to its first GLVC title
since 2001.
Shearer finished four
strokes better than runner-up Corey Sell (213) of Wisconsin-Parkside.
NKU golfers Mark Krahe and Andrew Jewell each totaled 219 and tied
for fifth place.
Bellarmine finished
in second place with a score of 889, while Drury took third-place
honors with 895.
NKU’s Daryl Landrum
earned the GLVC Coach of the Year honor for the third time in his
career as the Norse’s men’s coach. He also has been
named GLVC Coach of the Year in women’s golf twice.
