EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Rose Jepkirui set a school-record in the six-kilometer run with a time of 22:01 as the Northern Kentucky University women’s cross country team tied for third place at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships on Saturday. Jepkirui’s time was good for fifth place in the individual competition, and the junior from Mosoriot, Kenya, earned All-GLVC honors for her efforts. Norse junior Julianne Hoekzema finished sixth with a time of 22:05 and also earned All-GLVC accolades. It marked the second straight year that Hoekzema, a graduate of Hamilton Badin High School, earned All-GLVC honors. As a team, NKU
tied Indianapolis with a score of 85. The third-place finish at
the GLVC Championships is the highest for the Norse women’s
program. NKU enjoyed a record-setting men’s eight-kilometer run by finishing third in the team standings – the best in school history. The Norse totaled 86 points and placed five runners among the top 25 finishers. NKU junior Brad Bullock earned All-GLVC honors by crossing the finish line in 26:13, which was good for seventh place. Bullock, a graduate of Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, became the first NKU men’s runner to receive All-GLVC accolades since Brian Flaherty in 1995. He is also just the fourth NKU men's runner to ever earn the honor. NKU runners Matthew Shoulta (26:33, 15th place) and Keith Knapp (26:35, 17th place) finished in the top 20. Southern Indiana took the men’s title with a score of 63, followed by Lewis with 72. Both NKU teams will compete at the NCAA II Regional meet Nov. 4 at Kenosha, Wis. |
