ALEXANDRIA, Ky. - The
Northern Kentucky University men captured first-place honors at
the Norse Cross Country Classic at A.J. Jolly Park on Friday with
a team score of 28.
Four Norse runners -
Zach Koehler, Greaham Niemer, Brad Bullock and Keith Knapp - placed
in the top six finishers as NKU edged Ohio Northern by one point
for the team title. Koehler posted a second-place finish with a
time of 27:13 in the eight-kilometer run, while Niemer completed
the course in 27:21 and took third-place honors.
Bullock was fifth with
a time of 27:36, and Knapp finished sixth at 27:41. NKU’s
Adam Stoppelwerth posted a 12th-place finish in 28:34.
Ohio Northern’s
Brad Schroeder won the individual title with a time of 26:58.
In the women’s
five-kilometer run, NKU’s Julianne Hoekzema took first place
with a time of 19:48 as the Norse finished second as a team. Ohio
Northern placed five runners in the top seven to win the team title.
NKU’s Tracy Carskadon
finished fifth with a time of 20:32, and the Norse’s Lisa
Sand was 10th in a time of 21:26.
Terri Arlinghaus of
NKU was 11th with a time of 21:27.
A year ago, the NKU
women captured first place in the inaugural Norse Cross Country
Classic. Carskadon took first-place honors with a time of 19:26
in that race. Hoekzema finished in second place in 2004 with a time
of 19:36.
NKU will be back in
action Sept. 24 at the Great American Invitational in Cary, N.C.
