KETTERING, Ohio - The Northern Kentucky University men’s cross country team placed three runners in the top 20 finishers Saturday at the University of Dayton’s Flyer 5K Challenge and won the Division II race uncontested with Greaham Niemer taking the Division II individual title with a time of 16:04.

Niemer placed 14th in the overall competition, which featured six Division I schools. NKU freshman Zach Koehler posted a time of 16:07 and took 17th place for the Norse, while teammate Keith Knapp finished 20th with a time of 16:12.

Brad Bullock (32nd place, 16:24) and Adam Stoppelwerth (33rd place, 16:26) rounded out NKU’s top five in the event.

Chris Swisher of Miami (Ohio) captured first place with a time of 15:33 at the Indiana Riffle Park course.

In the women’s race, NKU’s Julianne Hoekzema finished 10th overall with a time of 19:27. Teammate Tracy Carskadon captured 33rd place with a time of 20:43 for the Norse women, who also won the Division II race uncontested.

Lisa Sand (42nd place, 21:03), Terri Arlinghaus  (47th place, 21:31) and Lindsey Bendure (57th place, 22:00) completed NKU’s top five finishers in the event.

Karen Berling of Cincinnati won the race with a time of 18:58.

NKU will play host to the Norse Cross Country Classic at 4:30 p.m. this Friday at A.J. Jolly Park in Alexandria, Ky.
