NORTHWOOD DEFEATS NKU IN FOUR GAMES |

Norse hit .190, drop to 3-2 with loss |

FINDLAY, Ohio - Gorana Maricic recorded 21 kills, five service aces and six blocks Friday as Northwood (Mich.) University defeated Northern Kentucky University, 30-26, 30-22, 30-32, 30-20, at the University of Findlay Tournament. Sladjana Vasiljevic added 16 kills as Northwood improved to 4-0. Tracy Martin finished with 13 kills, seven service aces and a .500 hitting percentage for the Timberwolves, who served up 17 aces and held a 24-4 advantage in blocks. Lynne Fischesser led NKU (3-2) with 16 kills, and she finished with a .323 hitting percentage. Liz Holmes added 13 kills for the Norse, who hit just .190 against the taller Timberwolves. NKUs Kristin Koralewski converted 12 kills in 23 attempts with four errors for a .348 hitting percentage. She now has 994 career kills at NKU and is looking become just the 10th player in Norse volleyball history to reach 1,000 kills. Setter Andrea Lanham recorded 39 assists for NKU, which defeated Northwood in four games last season. Northwood, however, hit .328 as a team on Friday - including .593 in the fourth game - to post the important regional victory against the Norse. Dragana Todorovic added 11 kills, seven blocks and a .500 hitting percentage for the balanced Northwood attack. Setter Marija Zivanovic ran the offense and had 56 assists for the Timberwolves. Amber Timmons collected 11 digs for NKU, which will meet Hillsdale (Mich.) College and Findlay on Saturday to conclude the two-day tournament. |
